ON LOCATION:

on location is FIXER’s MAGAZINE section dedicated to highlight Venezuelan photographers working on a life assignment far from home. migration is a Venezuelan reality embraced from many different reasons and through many different processes, but with one thing in common for every venezuelan: the feeling of displacement.

we focus here on photography that has nurtured from leaving behind life as expected and faced new realities. the use of gray as this section’s color is an analogy to all of those shades of gray we’ve had to make ours while facing new environments.

How was your artistic journey from Caracas

to MIAMI

and how the USA HAS shaped your photographic voice?

Although I agree that every experience we live shapes the way we see and create as artists, I don’t feel— or perhaps I haven’t yet realized—how this recent move to South Florida may have given a new form to my photographic voice. My life has always been marked by movement in and out of Venezuela, though this latest departure has been the most radical of all, for reasons that, unfortunately, are shared by nearly eight million of our fellow citizens.

Do you see elements of your Venezuelan roots

in the way you frame the world today?

Perhaps it lies in the influences of the Masters of Venezuelan photography whom I was fortunate enough to have as mentors. Surely the most important of all those influences is the devotion of the “Cochino Frito”

Looking back TO YOUR TIME IN CARACAS,

what is the biggest lesson you carry with you in your professional work today?

Always listen to your intuition, be prepared and present 100%, be flexible, kind and respectful with everyone, the latter will help you to open doors and give you access.

what would you tell your younger

self when you first picked up a camera?

Make sure the roll is securely placed in the camera sprocket. and Hold on tight, what's coming is JoropoRock!!

¡Agárrate, que lo que viene es JoropoRock!
