Heavy Metal By Cameron Winter

Heavy Metal by Cameron Winter

Stumbling forwards, a caricaturesque, wobbly baritone emerges from darkness, aided by instrumentation that sounds at once homespun and rickety while studio-crafted and well-orchestrated. Most of this album feels like it barely clicks into place, like the vaguely out of tune guitar on “Cancer of the Skull” or the hesitating chorus on “Love Takes Miles”. Yet, it’s that roughness that lends the album so much of its earnest and intimate atmosphere; seeming more like a friend showing you his songs, not hesitating to reveal himself, yet doing so through alien wordplay and occasional anchoring familiar phrases.
